The Limpet Mine Disposal Equipment (LMDE) disrupts mines attached to a ship’s hull or any underwater installation. The LMDE has a magnetic mounting stand and floats to allow deployment and attachment by a diver. The LMDE is diver deployable and has buoyancy blocks fitted to the stand to assist carrying and placement.

The LMDE is a disruptor system mounted in a stand attached to the hull or structure using magnets. Once in position the stand has features to allow the barrel to be accurately adjusted and positioned against the target. In operation, the LMDE projects a “slug” of water at high velocity into the target. This water penetrates the box of the target and disrupts the explosive filling and detonation mechanism. This provides a high degree of confidence that detonation will be avoided. The energy required to project the water is derived from an electrically initiated power cartridge. The LMDE is manufactured from corrosion resistant materials, the stand being of hard anodized aluminium and stainless steel construction. The disruptor is of pressure tested stainless steel. LMDE combats thin cased mines attached to the hull of a ship by enemy swimmers. Can be supplied with cartridge LMDE N12 Mk1 (warshot) and cartridge LMDE N2 Mk1 (training). Maximum operating depth is 30 meters.
